The job involves exciting and varied tasks where you teach young people in veterinary care both theoretically and practically. You are an important part of the school's educational team and contribute to the students' development of both professional skills and an ethical approach to animals. You actively contribute to the development of the school's veterinary education. Together with colleagues, you plan and conduct teaching for students in the fields of veterinary care and animal care. You collaborate with the school's animal caretakers, who are responsible for the daily care of our animals and guide students in practical work.

In the role of veterinarian, you are also responsible for parts of animal health in the school's educational environments and for necessary contacts with authorities to ensure that our animal facility meets applicable requirements.

In addition to work within the school, there is an opportunity to run your own small animal clinic in our premises if you wish – a unique opportunity for those who want to combine clinical work with teaching and supervision. The school's clinic consists of a larger examination room, waiting room, a room with five cages, and an adjoining room with an adjustable dog bathtub. The clinic is equipped with examination tables, examination lights, scales, incubators, welding equipment, and refrigerators.

The working hours are scheduled between 08:00 – 16:00 on weekdays. No on-call or weekend work is required. Our teachers have vacation services with a collective agreement via Almega (Education) - Friskolor Sveriges lärare.

You are passionate about working with young people and want to contribute to shaping the future workforce in veterinary care. You enjoy imparting knowledge, promoting good animal husbandry, and working for animal welfare. You want to be part of developing our veterinary education into one of the best in the country, together with your colleagues. Working in the school requires pedagogical insight, good collaboration skills, active listening, and clear and respectful communication. You provide students with a democratic and ethical approach and work in line with the school's values.

It is important that you can plan, organize, document, and prioritize work effectively and in a structured manner, as well as have the ability to set and adhere to deadlines. We offer the opportunity to gain qualification as a vocational teacher during working hours, and we hope you will start this training within a couple of years from when you join us.

• You are a licensed veterinarian, preferably with a few years of experience.
• You have the ability to supervise students both theoretically and practically.
• Pedagogical experience is an advantage.
• You have a good sense of animals and can work with different species.
• A driving license (B) is required as teaching also takes place outside the school premises.

Start Date 2025-08-07 or by agreement.

Employment Type: Permanent employment. Begins with a six-month probationary period.

Scope: 50-100% depending on preference.

About Gamlebygymnasiet

Gamlebygymnasiet is located about 20 kilometers north of Västervik. We are a nature conservation high school with national intake for students who love animals, nature, machines, and who want a practical education with opportunities for further studies. All our programs give students the option to start working directly after graduation or continue their studies at university or college. About 50 people are employed for our nearly 200 students. Most students live in the school's boarding house. This creates a sense of community among students, teachers, and other staff. The school is run by the Hushållningssällskapet Kalmar Kronoberg Blekinge, which operates three nature conservation high schools. The Hushållningssällskapet works with knowledge to develop the green industry.
