The Slottsskogs Observatory in Gothenburg is looking for guides who want to work with our visitors. As a guide with us, you will play a central role in spreading knowledge about astronomy and the night sky.

Responsibilities:

- Lead guided tours in our museum and talk about the exhibitions.

- Use telescopes for stargazing when the weather permits and show our visitors the night sky.

- Teach school classes during the day (not required).

We are looking for someone who:

- Has a strong interest in astronomy and science.

- Is outgoing, pedagogical, and enjoys speaking in front of groups.

- Has good teamwork skills and a positive attitude.

- Wants to share your enthusiasm for astronomy with both children and adults.

Requirements

- You are a trained astronomer or have another relevant background in natural sciences,

or you have good knowledge and can handle telescopes.

Do you lack prior knowledge? We also accept volunteers.

Working hours and extent:

The work is a part-time job with hourly pay. Currently, the hourly wage is 170 SEK during the day and 190 SEK in the evenings/weekends. We do not apply individual salary setting. We are looking for someone who can work at least one evening a week (2 hours) and/or a few lesson hours during the day. The job is perfect for those who want a stimulating job alongside their main occupation.

We have a diverse staff composition with astronomers, amateur astronomers, teachers, and students. We work as a team and help each other to constantly develop.

The Slottsskogs Observatory is a public observatory - a place for everyone who wants to explore the mysteries of the universe. We offer free admission and guided tours, exciting lectures, and the opportunity to see stars, planets, and other celestial phenomena through our telescopes.

We strive to inspire people of all ages and create an understanding of our place in the cosmos. The operation is run by the non-profit association Friends of Slottsskogs Observatory.
